After going through teacher training, I was so much more informed about how to do asana properly and safely and most importantly, thinking on a whole other level about where the energy of a pose goes. –2011 graduate

Yogawood's Teacher Training Program is a perfect blend of the physical and philosophical aspects of Yoga. I chose Yogawood's Teacher Training Program out of several other programs because it was the most well-rounded and comprehensive and because of the expertise and character of the staff. The program exceeded all my expectations and, as a new teacher, I continue to draw from the knowledge and support of the Yogawood community. –2010 graduate

Yogawood's teacher training (and, of course, the practice of yoga and mindfulness) has enhanced my intention and ability to live authentically, to explore who I really am and to allow that to shine without judgment, comparison, or hesitation. –2011 graduate

Yogawood's teacher training was a heartful blend of ancient philosophy, modern pragmatism, and life-altering practices for mindful living. Beth and her team created safe, powerful opportunities for personal and inter-personal growth and guided us towards our own realization of yoga. –2012 graduate

Yogawood's Vinyasa Yoga Teacher Training Program
September 28, 2012–April 30, 2013

"If you want to learn something, read about it. If you want to understand something, write about it. If you want to master something, teach it." –Yogi Bajan

Yogawood offers a teacher training program every year from early fall through late spring, generally about seven months. This 200-hour, Yoga Alliance Registered, Vinyasa Yoga Teacher Training provides you with the knowledge you need in order to begin teaching immediately after graduation. As part of the training, you will:

  • Deepen your own yoga practice in a big way
  • Learn how to teach over 60 postures commonly found in Vinyasa Yoga classes
  • Understand how to skillfully link these postures into inspiring class plans
  • Learn to offer safe, effective, hands-on assists and to modify postures for students of varying abilities
  • Correctly pronounce Sanskrit names of all of the postures you learn, and practice chanting mantras and excerpts from seminal yoga texts
  • Apply the principles of yoga philosophy to the physical practice and to your daily life
  • Develop your ability to teach everything you learn through lots and lots of supported practice
  • Graduate from the program ready and able to teach a wide range of students in all kinds of places

Why Yogawood?
Your training will be primarily led by Beth Filla, Yogawood's owner since 2006 and a classroom teacher and community educator since 1992. Beth holds a degree in English and Education from Rutgers University and Master's in Social Work from the University of Pennsylvania. She completed her 200-hour Vinyasa yoga Teacher Training with Corina Benner and Jill Manning at Wake Up Yoga in Philadelphia. Now a Certifed Jivamukti Yoga Teacher, Beth was honored to have studied this potent practice directly with her chosen teachers, the method's co-founders, Sharon Gannon and David Life, along with Jules Febre, in the spring of 2012.

For some people, yoga is a lifeline; for others, a shelter from the storm of living. For Beth, yoga is pure joy: an opportunity to uncover hidden connections and to watch the boundaries of what is possible melt steadily away. (This might have something to do with Yogawood being named "best yoga studio" by both Philadelphia Magazine and The Burlington County Times in 2010!)

Yogawood's Vinyasa Yoga Teacher Training has produced the vast majority of the excellent teachers currently leading classes at both Yogawood studios. The structure of the training and its strong emphasis on the philosophy of Yoga and the practice of Teaching produces confident instructors who are eager to share the wonder of their craft.

Should You Do It? Can You Do It?
This training is suitable for people with an established Vinyasa or Jivamukti yoga practice, or for people trained to teach other styles of yoga. It is physically challenging, but there is no requirement for you to be able to demonstrate mastery of any specific postures before we start.

Check the training schedule, and note that we will be meeting in both Collingswood and Riverton. We expect you to be present and on time for all sessions. If you know in advance that you have a commitment that cannot be changed, please discuss this with Beth when you come for class, prior to registering for this Teacher Training.

Plan to take at least two Vinyasa or Jivamukti Yoga classes each week. At least one of these classes must be taught by Beth Filla.

Full tuition for the program is $2,900. Payments are due according to the following schedule:

  • $100 non-refundable deposit upon acceptance to the program
  • $350 payments on October 1 and 15, November 1 and 15, December 1, 2012; January 15, February 1 and 15, 2013.

Tuition does not cover the cost of a small number of books that are required reading, but does include all training sessions and materials, as well as unlimited drop-in classes at Yogawood during the months of training.

How Do I Apply?
Easy! Complete and submit the application before September 5, 2012.

You have to take at least one class with Beth Filla before applying for this program. You want to be sure the program and the style of teaching you'll be learning is right for you. Your yoga Teacher Training should be amazing!
